Project name The Barton Hill Together project |
Primary target group Inter-race and intercultural |
Objectives IU, ED, EI, DM, CRPC, RT |
|
Project summary The Barton Hill Together Project aims to address community tension in and around Ashmead House, a tower block in Barton Hill, east Bristol. The community has changed in recent years with new migrants, including Somali communities, moving into a traditionally white neighbourhood. Following a rise in racist behaviour, violent incidents and arrests, a community consultation took place, resulting in an action plan to tackle these issues. Residents involved in the project were encouraged to learn about and explore different cultures through different activities. The project is ongoing and has been very successful in building bridges between communities and cultures. |

Project name Limeside and Clarkwell Linking project |
Primary target group Intergenerational and intercultural |
Objectives IU, DM, ED, EI, |
|
Project summary The linking project has been an opportunity for young people and old to meet and form friendships with people from two different estates - both culturally and economically deprived. The project has also brought together different age groups which have never met before. The two groups - Clarkwell has over 90% Bangladeshi people and Limeside is over 90% White British - have been brought together. Before these estates were divided by ignorance and were unsympathetic to each other as evidenced by the disturbances in the areas in 2001. |
