The Institute of Community Cohesion (iCoCo) and the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) are running an important one-day event aimed at supporting NHS practitioners and partners in promoting community cohesion in the current financial climate. The event will be chaired by Sir John Egan.

Community cohesion is a cross cutting issue. Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) have a responsibility to embed the principles of cohesion into the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) and the local area agreement (LAA).

The National Health Service (NHS) is an important partner in the field of community cohesion. There is massive potential for the people who work in and with the NHS to help promote community cohesion within the wide range of settings and establishments in which they operate.

IDeA and iCoCo are keen to support health practitioners and associated partners because social capital and community cohesion appears to have a particularly strong influence over health and wellbeing. People who are socially isolated tend to have worse physical and mental health - cohesive communities tend to be healthier communities.

So, if you are keen to:

  • tackle health inequalities through building social capital in the downturn
  • implement the Marmot Review (from both a Local Authority and Primary Care Trust perspective)
  • build resilience and promote healthy communities by adopting a lifecycle approach

then join us in Coventry on the 19th May. The cost of this event is £199.
